Everton news: Paul Clement is ‘excellent signing’ and will be ‘key’ behind the scenes – Danny Mills

Paul Clement could be the key to Frank Lampard being a success at Everton, according to Danny Mills.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Leeds United and England defender claimed Clement was an “excellent signing” and his “huge wealth of knowledge” will be vital for Lampard.

Everton confirmed on Monday (31 January) the former Chelsea and Derby boss had signed a two-and-a-half-year contract.

It was also confirmed Clement had been appointed as his first team coach.

“It’s always a bit of a gamble,” Mills told Football Insider‘s Connor Whitley.

“Frank did a good job at Derby and I like what he did at Chelsea. It didn’t quite work out and Thomas Tuchel came in and eclipsed it which didn’t help.

“I thought he would take the Norwich job but he waited instead.

“The fans are excited, the brand of football is going to be different. Frank will have gone away and learnt an awful lot from this time out of football.

“Most importantly it’s the coaching staff that he’s brought in. That is the real key.

“Yes, he’s brought in young coaches and is keeping Duncan Ferguson around which will go down well with the fans.

“But I think Paul Clement is an excellent signing as a coach. Before it was Frank and Jody Morris.

“Look at what Steven Gerrard has done at Rangers and now at Aston Villa. He had Gary McAllister around who has been there, seen it, done it as a player, coach and manager.

“He has a huge wealth of knowledge, like Paul Clement. He’s a fantastic coach, he’s been a manager in his own right and had all sorts of roles.

“He’ll be a really good sounding board for Frank and for Everton.”

In other news, Everton are racing to sign the next Tariq Lampety in an out-of-window deal.
