Everton news: Pundit claims Anthony Gordon’s head has been turned as deal close

Frank McAvennie has claimed Everton star Anthony Gordon has had his head turned by Chelsea.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former West Ham striker Gordon might feel he has a better chance of winning things with the Blues.

According to the Telegraph (19 December), the 21-year-old is close to agreeing a new contract at Goodison Park.

His current deal expires in 2025 but the Toffees want to pin him down long-term in the hopes of warding off interest from Chelsea and Tottenham.

Frank Lampard has made retaining the winger a priority ahead of the winter and summer windows.

Gordon has made 15 appearances for Everton this season across all competitions and has scored three goals in those outings.

When asked if the youngster’s head could be turned by an offer from a club like Chelsea, McAvennie told Football Insider:I think so.

We have seen it with other players. I think the manager is quite good at keeping players up to date with things.

Players are level headed now, the money is secondary because they are getting so much of it anyway. They do not need to move for the money anymore.

He might want to go because he has a better chance with winning things at Chelsea.

Gordon has almost equalled his goal tally from last season in which he scored four gaols in 40 appearances across all competitions.

Everton are currently 17th in the league, one point clear of the drop zone ahead of their Boxing Day clash against Wolves.
