Everton news: Pundit fires Crystal Palace warning amid ‘huge’ verdict – ‘there’s no way’
Noel Whelan has urged Everton to cut out “silly mistakes and lapses in concentration” when they face Crystal Palace on Thursday (19 May).
The former Leeds striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, suggested Patrick Vieira’s side have the quality to punish the Toffees just as Brentford did in their 3-2 win on Sunday (15 May).
Everton can secure their Premier League status with a game to spare if they can pick up all three points in their final home game of the season on Thursday (19 May).
If they fail to win, the battle to avoid the drop will go down to the final day (22 May).
Everton had two men sent off and conceded two sloppy headers during their crucial defeat against Brentford – a game marred by individual errors.
As per WhoScored (16 May), the Toffees have made the most errors leading to opposition goals in the top flight this term (10).
Whelan insisted Palace will not be “on the beach” despite having nothing to play for as their campaign ends.
“It’s a huge game,” he told Football Insider‘s Ewan Kingsbury.
“Palace are a really good side. They won’t be on the beach or thinking about their holidays.
“Patrick Vieira is a serial winner and he will not let his players take their foot off the gas. They’ve got some real match-winners as well who can punish you if you switch off.
“Frank Lampard needs to cut out these silly mistakes and the lapses in concentration we saw against Brentford. Palace and Arsenal are two teams who can punish you.

“Everton need to win on Thursday.
“There’s no way they will want to travel to Arsenal on Sunday needing all three points.”
