Everton news: Pundit hails ‘brilliant’ Frank Lampard decision as training ground picture emerges
Alan Hutton has hailed Frank Lampard for keeping Duncan Ferguson on the coaching staff after being appointed Everton manager.
The former Scotland defender, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, insisted the 50-year-old’s experience and know-how at Goodison Park would prove invaluable.
Ferguson was not named as part of Lampard’s backroom team when the Toffees announced the 43-year-old’s appointment on Monday (31 January).
However, he was photographed at the training ground and named as part of Lampard’s staff today (1 February).
Hutton hailed the decision to keep Ferguson on board.
Hutton told Football Insider’s Russell Edge: “It’s a brilliant decision. I mean, this is a guy who knows the club inside out.
“I don’t think it would be the best start to Frank Lampard’s Everton career if he got rid of him, especially after everything that’s gone on.
“That’s not me sitting here saying that they’re keeping him here just because he doesn’t want to upset the fans. I think he galvanises the team, he knows the club, the players inside and out.
“He can pass on his knowledge to Frank, everything that’s going on behind the scenes, which is obviously going to help him.
“So it’s a no brainer for me to have someone of his experience there that he can lean on. It’s an excellent decision. It was probably one that he had to try and get him to stay on.
“With everything that’s gone on in the past, he’s been under a lot of managers. Maybe some people see it as it being the same face.
“But I think, in terms of him, it’s a little bit different because he genuinely loves the club. The fans know that and I think they need people like that.”

Ferguson has been part of the first-team coaching staff since 2014.
He has also had two spells as caretaker manager.
