Everton news: Pundit issues ‘brilliant’ Jonjoe Kenny claim after ‘perfect’ update

Jonjoe Kenny will have made a “very good” first impression on Everton boss Frank Lampard, according to Alan Hutton.

The former Scotland international, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, claimed the 24-year-old has “started with a clean slate” under the new Toffees boss.

Kenny starred in an unfamiliar left-back role as Lampard recorded his first league victory in charge of Everton with a 3-0 win over Leeds United last Saturday (12 February).

As per WhoScored, the natural right-back – playing on the left of a back four – completed two tackles, three interceptions, two clearances and two key passes during the clash.

Speaking on Wednesday (16 February) to club media, Lampard hailed the “quality” former Celtic loanee, adding that he “loves” his “attitude in training” and branding him “perfect for any game”.

Hutton described Kenny’s defensive display as “brilliant”.

“He did really well,” he told Football Insider‘s Russell Edge.

“When you play on the opposite side, and I’ve done it as well – you have to do the basics well. You have to concentrate, and I think you become very focused because it’s very unfamiliar.

“Defensively he was brilliant against Leeds and he contributed in the final third as well, so it was a good performance for him.

“I was wondering whether they’d put Nathan Patterson in there, but that would have probably been a bit harsh in his first games for the club. Kenny has done it before.

“He’s started with a clean slate under Lampard. It’s all about first impressions, and he will have made a very good one.”

Kenny has made just nine Everton appearances this term.

He made 16 appearances for Celtic during a loan spell last season.
