Everton news: Pundit shares ‘terrible’ Kevin Thelwell verdict after statement claim
Everton fans should be concerned about Kevin Thelwell’s transfer record.
That’s according to former Celtic hitman Frank McAvennie, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the Toffees’ latest appointment.
Thelwell was announced as Everton’s new director of football on 25 February.
He quit his role as Head of Sport at New York Red Bulls to join the Toffees and replace Marcel Brands.
New York Red Bulls’ statement announcing Thelwell’s departure credits him with pulling off several signings, including the capture of Celtic flop Patryk Klimala.
McAvennie was left less than impressed after finding out Thelwell sanctioned a move for Klimala.
“It’s not exactly a ringing endorsement,” McAvennie told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.
“Klimala was so bad for Celtic, the boy never used to move. He would just stand there.
“I was so glad Celtic got rid of him and it sounds like this guy is the person to thank.
“I know the MLS is a different league and Klimala might do well over there.
“But he did nothing in a Celtic shirt to earn a move to a club like that.
“Everton fans better hope he looks for better players than Klimala in the summer.
“The last thing Everton need is another terrible transfer window.”

Klimala, 23, made 28 appearances for Celtic but only scored three times.
He has so far made 32 appearances for New York Red Bulls and has nine goals to his name.
In other news, a pundit has demanded a “10-game ban” for Chris Kavanagh after an update on a “horrific” Everton controversy.
