Everton news: Whelan savages ‘disgraceful’ Richarlison after what he’s seen

Noel Whelan has slammed the “disgraceful” actions of Richarlison after Everton fell 2-1 away at West Ham on Sunday (3 April).

The former Leeds striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, savaged the 24-year-old for heading down the tunnel without showing his appreciation to the travelling fans.

Speaking on BBC 5 Live Sport after the game, former England defender Jonathan Woodgate branded the Brazillian’s actions “hugely disrespectful” to the Everton faithful.

During the match, Richarlison spurned two chances and saw three shots blocked as the Toffees tried in vain to halt their terrible run of away form.

The former Watford winger has netted just four goals in 21 Premier League games this season.

Whelan slammed Richarlison’s “babyish” attitude and suggested the pressures of a relegation battle could be affecting the Merseysiders.

“The pressure is mounting on these Everton players,” he told Football Insider‘s Ewan Kingsbury.

“I saw Richarlison walking off the pitch at the end of the game, not even applauding the away fans. I thought that was disgraceful.

“But it doesn’t surprise me. He’s always had that attitude and that temperament that can get in the way of his talent at times. It’s a bit babyish.

“I don’t like to see that. Some of his facials at times, I don’t like to see that. The fans deserve that appreciation for spending all that money and travelling all that way to watch them play football.

“To me, that was disgusting. Yes, you’re disappointed – but the least they deserve is some sort of recognition for their sacrifices.”
