Odds slashed: Everton installed strong favourites to sign PL 23-year-old

By Russell Edge

Everton have been installed as odds-on favourites by bookmakers to secure the signing of Sunderland goalkeeper Jordan Pickford.

SkyBet have placed odds of 1/2 on the Toffees taking Pickford to Goodison Park from the North East side, who had their relegation confirmed on Saturday.

The odds have been cut massively after Everton were named as joint favourites alongside Manchester City last week, with odds of 7/2 offered by SkyBet.

However, it seems the Merseyside club have taken a huge step forward, while the Sky Blues have fallen back in their hunt for the highly rated goalkeeper.

City are now third favourites with 9/1 odds, behind Liverpool (7/1) and ahead of Crystal Palace (10/1) and West Ham (12/1).

Pickford has a contract with the Black Cats keeping him at the Stadium of Light until 2020, although with the club’s relegation confirmed, it seems unlikely he will want to remain with so many Premier League suitors interested.

The Sunderland stopper has been able to prove himself all too often this season, with his side rooted to the bottom of the Premier League table, having won just once since the New Year.

The Premier League’s official site name Pickford as the second busiest goalkeeper in the league in terms of saves, with 115, behind Burnley’s Tom Heaton on 134.

Everton currently have Dutch international Maarten Stekelenburg and Spanish goalkeeper Joel Robles as their options between the sticks.

However, it appears Ronald Koeman is seeking to bolster his squad, with the Liverpool Echo reporting Pickford as a target.
