Everton points deduction: O’Rourke expects ‘a lot of anger on Merseyside’ after shattering twist
Everton fans are “angry” that Nottingham Forest were hit with a lesser FFP sanction for a bigger breach of regulations.
Speaking on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, senior correspondent Pete O’Rourke was baffled that the Toffees were given an initial 10-point deduction compared to Forest’s four.
Everton had their sanction reduced to six points after an appeal, but questions have been raised after their losses exceeded the allowed limit by £19.5million, while Forest’s were £34.5million.
Sean Dyche’s side still have another PSR hearing looming for another breach relating to their 2022-23 accounts, which is set for next week.
Everton fans will be furious after points deduction latest
O’Rourke feared for the Toffees’ Premier League status should they be hit with another points deduction and questioned the consistency of the independent commissions.
“Everton fans are understandably going to be angry,” he told Football Insider.
“Their financial loss was a lot less than Nottingham Forest’s but they ended up getting the bigger penalty – how does that work out?
“Everton were having a good start to the season before their 10-point penalty.
“They rallied and had some good form under Sean Dyche to make sure they got those points back pretty quickly, but there’s been a struggle since.
“Dyche admitted that the whole thing has been hanging over the club and the players, so you have to feel for them.
“They’re still in the dark over their second charge which will be heard next week.

“If they were to be handed another points deduction, they’ll probably be right back in the relegation zone.
“For Everton, if they were to get another one after seeing Forest’s, there definitely will be a lot of anger at Merseyside.”
