Everton points deduction: Wyness tears into Masters after latest – ‘he’s out of his depth’
Former Everton CEO Keith Wyness has ripped into the two senior Premier League figures following new developments
Former Everton chief Keith Wyness has insisted Premier League CEO Richard Masters is “clearly out of his depth” and has not maintained the “integrity” of the top flight.
Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, the 66-year-old – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – also slammed Premier League chair Alisson Brittain for her absence from the process which has punished the Toffees.
Everton have already been deducted 10 points this season for financial breaches and now – alongside Nottingham Forest – face a second charge for a similar breach.
The Toffees will discover the outcome of their appeal against the original punishment later this month – a decision which could seal or prevent relegation to the Championship.
The hearings for Everton and Forest have been fast-tracked despite Man City having 115 outstanding financial charges – which were levelled at them 12 months ago.
Masters, who succeeded Richard Scudamore in 2019, has been the face of the Premier League in Whitehall and the media – while Brittain has stayed relatively silent on the recent developments.
Wyness told Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast: “I’m very clear.
“Alison Brittain is the chair of the Premier League. She’s been completely absent from the process – that’s wrong.
“If this is the biggest punishment handed to a Premier League club, then it should be the chairman who is getting involved.
“Richard Masters is clearly out of his depth, in my opinion.
“This whole issue could have been handled in a completely different way, keeping the Premier League’s integrity intact.
“Everton have been working with the league with this since 2020, lifting the veil. All the transfers were approved.
“At one stage, the Premier League said there would be no charges coming. It’s almost like the Premier League have got all the information from Everton voluntarily and then used it against them.
“There are some big issues around how this has been governed.

“They’ve got to do a better job at maintaining the integrity of the league.
“The table is a mess, the Man City issue should have been resolved first – and then each case, in turn, could have been heard.”
