Everton set sights on Taty Castellanos as ‘preliminary talks’ get underway

Everton are one of a number of Premier League clubs keeping a close eye on Taty Castellanos as he is expected to leave West Ham this summer.

The 27-year-old joined Nuno Espirito Santo’s side during the January transfer window and impressed despite the season ending in relegation on the final day.

He recent shared an emotional message to the fans on social media, thanking them for their support, but is expected to move on rather than plat in the Championship.

Former West Ham scout Mick Brown told Football Insider that Everton’s recruitment team have been impressed by Castellanos’ displays and could make a move.

David Moyes is keen to bolster his squad in the coming months, and the addition of a new striker is among the priorities ahead of a busy transfer window for Everton.

Could Everton make a move to sign Taty Castellanos?

Football Insider revealed on 11 May that Everton plan to spend big on a striker this summer, with the owners hoping to back Moyes with considerable funds.

Beto’s performances had improved in the closing weeks of the season, but frustrations surrounding Thierno Barry have lingered since his arrival.

Castellanos has now proven his abilities in the Premier League with West Ham, and the Toffees could hand him the chance to remain in the top flight.

“Castellanos is one I expect to leave West Ham,” Brown told Football Insider.

“His agent will already be busy speaking to clubs trying to drum up interest and seeing who might be interested in his client, it’s always the way it works.

“He’s popped up with a few goals and some good performances, I think he’s shown he’s good enough to play in the Premier League, so I have no doubt there will be interest.

“Everton, for example, are in need of a new striker and they could do far worse than him.

“Their scouts and recruitment people will have been keeping an eye on his performances for West Ham, and they will have been impressed by what they’ve seen.

“He’s shown he can score goals in the Premier League even for a struggling side, so somebody like Everton with their ambitions might be a good fit.

“I think what he’s done at West Ham has shown he could do a job, and probably a better one than Beto and Barry have been doing.”

How does Castellanos feel about leaving West Ham?

Castellanos has enjoyed a strong spell at the London Stadium since his mid-season arrival, and fans are hopeful he can stay at the club beyond this summer.

However, he has no intention of playing in the Championship next season, and work is already underway to find his next club after the season ended.

Brown told Football Insider on 25 May that Castellanos’ agent is already in talks about leaving West Ham, having contacted multiple clubs about his availability.

West Ham are also under pressure to sell players given their difficult financial situation after they reported losses of over £100million in their recent accounts.

Following their relegation from the Premier League, their need to raise money through sales has become even more clear, and Castellanos could be among those set to leave.
