Medical insider reveals real reason why Seamus Coleman is still out amid Everton latest

Everton skipper Seamus Coleman’s age will likely have slowed his ability to recover from injury.

That is the view of medical expert Ben Dinnery, who runs the Premier Injuries site and has a background in injury and data analysis.

Coleman, who turns 34 in October, went under the knife to correct a groin issue after the conclusion of 2021-22.

The right-back has not featured at all for the Toffees in pre-season ahead of 2022-23.

The Liverpool ECHO reported last Sunday (31 July) that he is now unlikely to be fit for the season opener against Chelsea on Saturday (6 August).

Dinnery assessed the Irishman’s injury status and explained why his age may well be a factor.

“As you get older, the way your body heals and repairs itself becomes less efficient,” he told Football Insider’s Adam Williams.

“That is just a fact of life. There will be an element of that with Seamus Coleman. But he really looks after himself on and off the pitch.

“Any surgery, even if it’s a straightforward procedure, there is always a risk associated with that. Even with advances in technology, it still takes the body a set period of time to recover.

“You don’t want to be rushing the likes of Coleman back when you have got someone like Patterson who can slot in.

“I don’t think his age will cause massive delays but it’s just something they have to be cautious with. A setback at this stage could put him out for even longer.”
