Medical expert issues ‘six-game’ Dominic Calvert-Lewin verdict after Everton update

It could take Dominic Calvert-Lewin another six games before he reaches his pre-injury levels at Everton.

That is the view of injury expert Ben Dinnery, who runs the Premier Injuries site and has a background in medicine and data analysis.

Calvert-Lewin, 25, is sidelined with illness and failed to make the squad for the 25th time in 2021-22 for the 1-0 defeat to Wolves last Sunday (13 March).

The striker’s season has been beset by various injury issues, including a fractured toe and a quadriceps complaint.

Frank Lampard revealed that there will be a late call on his fitness to face Newcastle United tonight, per the Liverpool Echo yesterday (16 March).

Dinnery bemoaned the England international’s luck and explained why it could take some time before he reaches his best again.

“It’s one of those seasons for him,” he told Football Insider’s Adam Williams.

“This illness isn’t likely to keep him out for too long but it has forced him to miss another game. He’s been playing catch-up since day one.

“With his involvement in the Euros, he rejoined the club a little deconditioned. He had the toe problem and the quad injury.

“He just hasn’t been able to find his rhythm. You now question how long is it before he is back in that starting XI.

“It’s a gamble now because he hasn’t found that rhythm. But it can be four, five, even six games before you reach pre-injury levels.”

Calvert-Lewin has scored three times in nine appearances when fit this season.

The Toffees, who have played 26 games, are currently outside the relegation zone only on goal difference.
