Demarai Gray: Medical expert issues ‘big’ claim after Everton injury update

Demarai Gray is almost certain to return from injury against Man City on Saturday (26 February – and that is “big” news for Everton.

That is the view of injury expert Ben Dinnery, who runs the Premier Injuries site and has a background in medicine and data analysis.

Gray, a summer signing from Bayer Leverkusen, has not featured since the 3-1 defeat to Newcastle United earlier this month (8 February).

Frank Lampard told the Liverpool Echo last Thursday (17 February) that he was “hopeful” Gray would be available this coming weekend.

And the 25-year-old winger appeared to hint that his return was imminent in an Instagram post on Monday (21 February).

Dinnery predicts that Gray will indeed be ready for action against City.

“He just missed out at Southampton,” he told Football Insider‘s Adam Williams.

“It’s not a new injury. It’s his hip flexor, so a groin-related problem. He’s had problems with it previously and recovered fairly quickly.

“Given the quick turnaround last time out, it probably would have been a stretch to include Demarai Gray.

“But provided there is no reaction in training, I would fully expect him to be in the matchday squad against Man City this weekend.

“That’s going to be big for Everton. We know it’s going to be a really, really tough game and they need as many players fit as possible.”

Gray has found the back of the net six times and supplied a further three assists in 24 appearances across all competitions this season.

His Everton side have won one of their last eight league matches and are currently just two points outside the relegation zone.
