Everton striker problems solved amid Dominic Calvert-Lewin update – pundit

Alan Hutton has claimed Neal Maupay could be the answer to the striker problems at Everton.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Tottenham and Aston Villa defender said the 26-year-old won’t be a “prolific” goalscorer this season but will give the Toffees a “little bit extra” up front.

Maupay was in the starting lineup as Everton took on Liverpool on Saturday (3 September).

The new signing played the full 90 minutes in the 0-0 drawn at Goodison Park.

On 26 August, the club confirmed the signing of the striker from Brighton.

The former France under-21 international put pen to paper on a three-year deal with the Merseyside club that includes the option of a further year.

Speaking to club media (2 September), Lampard confirmed Dominic Calvert-Lewin will be back in training next week.

The striker is yet to feature in a game for Everton this season after sustaining a knee injury in pre-season training.

When asked if Maupay could be the answer to the Toffees’ striker problems, Hutton told Football Insider: “He gives them something different from what they’re used to.

Everton

He likes to get on the ball, link up play, get in behind. Yes he’ll score goals. I don’t think he’s prolific but he definitely gives you something different to what they have.

I think he’ll give them that little bit extra they need up front because they were definitely short in that area last season.
