Kieran Maguire rubbishes £500m Everton takeover claim

It would be a major shock if Peter Kenyon’s consortium is to fork out £500million for Everton.

That is the view of finance guru Kieran Maguire, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the former Man United and Chelsea powerbroker’s attempts to take over the Toffees.

Per The Telegraph reported on Tuesday (14 June), a consortium fronted by the 68-year-old has signed heads of terms in the negotiations, giving them exclusivity to thrash out a deal.

It is claimed that Farhad Moshiri, who reiterated his commitment to the club in an end-of-season message only last Wednesday (8 June), wants £500million.

But Maguire insists that this is wild overvaluation for a club who have lost over £370m since 2019.

“Everton over the course of the last three years have lost over £350,000 per day,” he told Football Insider’s Adam Williams.

“It would therefore be unusual for someone to want to pay £500m for a business like that unless there was significant evidence that those losses and cash flows can be reversed.

“If the Kenyon consortium believe that is achievable then there is a case for having a fair price. Moshiri paid £175m for the club and has put a lot of money in since.

“I don’t think the Boehly fee for Chelsea is a good benchmark. A more appropriate benchmark would be Newcastle, which was £300m. Where’s the extra £200m coming from for Everton?

“Rember, you’re also going to have to finance the stadium move. Sometimes people ask for a number and it isn’t really supported by the fundamentals.”
