Everton tipped to accept ‘£20m’ Jordan Pickford offer as new details emerge – Agbonlahor
Gabby Agbonlahor has insisted Jordan Pickford will leave Everton in the event of relegation even with no release clause in his new contract.
The former Aston Villa striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, suggested the Toffees will not be able to pay his big-money wages while in the second tier.
Everton confirmed via club media on Friday (24 February) that Pickford has signed a new four-and-a-half-year contract – keeping him at the club until June 2027.
Football Insider confirmed on Saturday (25 February) that the agreement does not include a release clause to allow him to leave for a set price in the event of relegation.
Pickford’s wages have risen to around £100,000-a-week, placing him alongside the club’s highest earners.
The former Sunderland star has now played for England in three consecutive major tournaments.
Agbonlahor told Football Insider’s Ewan Kingsbury: “I think Pickford will have looked at it and decided that he will go if they get relegated.
“He’ll have been happy to sign the new deal while they’re still in the Premier League and make sure Everton can get a transfer fee for him if he does leave.
“If Everton go down, he’s going to be at the club on £100,000-a-week. That’s not sustainable for a club in the Championship.
“Plus, he’s England’s number one. He’ll want to be playing in the top league.

“I’m sure he won’t need a release clause to make sure that happens.
“If they go down and a bid comes in for £20million – I don’t think Everton will be able to turn it down.”
