Everton tipped to accept ‘£60m’ Anthony Gordon bid after latest twist – pundit

It is “inevitable” Anthony Gordon will leave Everton at some point if they were to receive a bid of £60million.

That is the view of ex-Premier League striker Noel Whelan, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about Gordon’s future.

Football.London reported earlier this week (29 June) that the 21-year-old was keen to work under Antonio Conte at Tottenham but would not force through a move.

Sky Sports reported on Thursday (30 June) that the north London giants had cooled their interest as the Blues made it clear the winger would not be sold.

“Good players and players that are coming through at a good age are always being looked at,” Whelan told Football Insider‘s Connor Whitley.

“I wouldn’t say they are bigger in terms of a name because Everton are a big, big club themselves. But those that are fighting more towards the Champions League and that top-six, there is always that opportunity they might come in if they have a good season.

“Look, it’s important that Everton keep him. They only had to sell one person and they’ve done that with Richarlison and it’s generated £60million.

“That gives them the funds to go out in the market and strengthen areas. They can get players who can complement Gordon as well.

“That’s very important. If they have a good season that could change everything around for the players. Why would they want to leave?

“It’s not been right for a number of years now. They’ve wasted money on a number of players, they’ve come and gone quickly.

“Now they need to get settled and have some stability in their team that goes out there week in, week out.

“They need to grow a team that will be together for three or four years and I think he could be a big part of that.

“There is always that opportunity that the wolves will come and money talks, it’s always very hard to turn money down when you know you can go and get two or three players for £60million.

“These things happen and it can be inevitable at times.”

In other news, Everton could now sign Georginio Wijnaldum as a transfer decision is made.
