Everton tipped to complete ‘surprise’ Van De Beek signing after Brands ‘talks’ revealed – pundit

Paul Robinson predicts Everton will return for Manchester United midfielder Donny van de Beek in January.

The former Tottenham stopper, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, reacted to the latest Toffees transfer news.

Speaking to Dutch outlet Ziggo Sport (via The Athletic) Van De Beek’s agent admitted he “opened talks” with Marcel Brands in the final days of the window.

The midfielder signed for Man United last summer but only made 19 Premier League appearances, with only four of them being starts.

He is also yet to make an appearance this season though he may be handed more game time once the Champions League gets underway.

Robinson is surprised Man United didn’t let the midfielder leave but tipped the Blues to come back to the negotiating table in January.

“I’m surprised they didn’t let him go,” Robinson told Football Insider assistant editor Dylan Childs.

“He’s not playing much at Man United, there might have been a lot of transfer talk at Old Trafford after the window closed.

“Lingard’s future was up in the air, Van De Beek too. I don’t think they wanted to lose both of them so that could be something that’s revisited in January.

“It seems strange with his lack of game time. He’s clearly not in the manager’s plans.

“You have to question where the player is in the setup of the squad.

“I think it will get resolved in January. It was a surprise to see him linked.”

Everton are currently sixth in the Premier League table.

They are next in action against Burnley on Monday night.
