Kieran Maguire tips Everton to hire ‘specialist’ to complete multiple new deals

Everton will likely appoint a “specialist” commercial chief to broaden their sponsorship portfolio ahead of their stadium move in 2024.

That is the view of finance guru Kieran Maguire, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the Toffees’ business master plan.

Per the Daily Mail last Sunday (6 March), there are some questions behind the scenes about the decision to operate without a commercial director.

Alan McTavish left the specialist role to become managing director of the women’s team in October.

The Toffees elected not to replace him and instead widened marketing manager Richard Kenyon’s job scope to include commercial duties.

But they will likely appoint a dedicated commercial director to drive commercial growth ahead of the Bramley Moor Dock move, claims Maguire.

“As they go forward and move into the new stadium, this is an area the club will address,” he told Football Insider‘s Adam Williams.

“The significance of commercial partners will grow because there is a bigger product to sell.

“There are more opportunities with hospitality and diversifying the portfolio of sponsors. This would be a natural progression.

“Everton under Bill Kenwright, and this isn’t a criticism, operated on a tight budget. They didn’t see the merits of investing in the commercial department.

“We are now operating in a different environment. There is a new owner in Farhad Moshiri and there is a new stadium coming soon.

“There is a lot of partnership opportunities there, and I think you need a specialist for that.”

Everton are estimated to have lost £30million in annual sponsorship revenue after Alisher Usmanov was forced to cut ties with the club.

It was also revealed last week that the Toffees’ front-of-shirt sponsorship deal with Cazoo will end at the close of the season.
