Everton tipped to strike Patterson deal on one condition after Rangers update – pundit

Rangers would strike a deal with Everton for Nathan Patterson “if the money is right” but their first offer was “disrespectful”.

That is the view of former Aberdeen and Leeds United striker Noel Whelan, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the Premier League side’s interest in the 19-year-old.

According to The Mirror‘s John Cross (22nd August), Everton have made a £5million bid for Patterson.

The Toffees are said to see the Scotland international as the perfect competition for club captain Seamus Coleman, who signed a one-year extension to his contract last month.

As quoted by The Scottish Sun (22nd August), Gerrard called the reported offer ‘a joke’ when quizzed on the news.

Patterson put pen to paper on a new contract at Ibrox in January which runs until the summer of 2024.

When asked by Football Insider assistant editor Dylan Childs for his assessment of the bid, Whelan said:

“They are obviously testing the water but Gerrard knows Patterson’s worth because he works with him every day.

“Let’s be honest, £5million for a player of Patterson’s quality is a joke in this day and age. I would agree with Gerrard in that respect. It’s a bit disrespectful to put in an offer like that.

“If the money is right though, I think a deal could be struck there. One thing is for sure though, Everton are way off the mark right now so they will have to up their bid significantly if they want to sign him.”
