Everton to lose Jarrad Branthwaite to ‘big’ Champions League club

Everton are expected to lose Jarrad Branthwaite to a top Champions League club in the near future.

Speaking on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, former Tottenham goalkeeper Paul Robinson stated that the Champions League is “the pinnacle” for any footballer.

Man United pursued the 22-year-old centre-back throughout the summer transfer window, but Premier League giants were unable to secure him despite multiple bids.

Football Insider revealed that the Merseyside giants are asking for £100million for the England international.

Well-placed sources have also revealed to Football Insider that Man United are being tipped to line up another bid for the defender in January, as they attempt to test Everton’s resolve once more.

Everton will have to work hard to try and retain Jarrad Branthwaite

“A lot for Jarrad Branthwaite as well is on his own personal development,” Robinson told Football Insider.

“[It] Depends on the team’s success and how the team’s doing.

“You can have all the wealth and the structure of a club off the field that you want, but if the team’s not performing and he’s a young player, so he’s going to get the opportunity to get into the international squad, at some point he’ll be called into that.

“When you get into the international squad and you’re mixing around players that are playing in the Champions League every week, you’re mixing around players that are playing in the Europa League.

“You’re talking to [them] and some of the boys about the trip that they had to wherever in Europe last week in the Champions League.

“The Champions League is the pinnacle, that’s where players want to play.

“There’s only so long a club doesn’t show ambition on the field can hold onto a player of that quality if there are Champions League clubs and other top clubs looking at him.

“He’s going to command a big transfer fee, we’ve seen that, are they going to be able to compete on the level on the field which keeps him happy, which is the biggest thing for me.

“How long is it going to take for Everton to get in the Champions League?

“None of us can see that happening anytime soon. And I think that’s going to be a big pull.”
