Kieran Maguire: Everton to profit just £37m from Richarlison sale

Everton will only pocket £37.2million in profit from the sale of Richarlison to Tottenham.

That is the view of finance guru Kieran Maguire, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the Brazilian’s now-confirmed departure to north London.

The Toffees announced that the 25-year-old had left the club on Friday (1 July) for an undisclosed fee.

Sky Sports reported that same day that the deal for the forward, who signed a five-year contract, is worth £50m rising to £60m with add-ons.

But Maguire explains that a sell-on clause means former club Watford are owed a sizable chunk of change.

“It is going to make things challenging,” he told Football Insider’s Adam Williams.

“I worked out the profit available for the Richarlison deal, which was £37.2m because they have got to give 20 per cent of the cash profit to Watford.

“There are benefits of trimming the wage bill with James Rodriguez, Tosun etc coming off it. A lot of people have come to Everton on big wages and not delivered.

But I think they are going to have a challenging summer. From Moshiri’s perspective, the last thing you want to do before selling your house is put a swimming pool in the back garden. They aren’t incentivised because they are passing the keys.

Richarlison scored 53 times and supplied 14 assists in 152 appearances for Everton.

He becomes Spurs’ fourth senior signing this summer alongside Yves Bissouma, Ivan Perisic and Fraser Forster.
