Everton told to seal deal for ‘proven goalscorer’ as two stars named – Robinson

Paul Robinson has backed Everton to sign a proven Premier League goalscorer in the January transfer window.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Spurs and England number one said the Toffees cannot rely on Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Neil Maupay.

Frank Lampard’s side are in the market for a striker this winter.

According to the Mail on Sunday (18 December, p. 97), the Merseyside club want a centre-forward in the mould of Watford’s Ismaila Sarr or Atletico Madrid’s Matheus Cunha.

Cunha has struggled to make an impact at Atletico Madrid since joining in a big-money move 18 months ago.

When asked by Football Insider if Cunha would be a welcome addition at Goodison Park, Robinson said: “Everton are in desperate need of another striker.

“Maupay is not going to score the goals and Calvert-Lewin cannot stay fit for more than two weeks. Maupay is a very good striker. I like him. He is a tried and tested Premier League player but he will not get you 15 goals a season at Everton.

“They need a goalscorer. Cunha would be a very good option for them because he is a different profile of striker.

“If I was them I would be going into the market for a proven goalscorer though. Someone who has experience of playing in the Premier League because they need whoever comes in to have an immediate impact.”
