Everton transfer news: Dele Alli tipped to explode after Romano’s £33.4m reveal – pundit
Alan Hutton has insisted new Everton manager Frank Lampard needs to “put an arm around” Dele Alli to get the best out of the Tottenham outcast.
The former Spurs defender, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, suggested the 25-year-old is severely lacking in confidence after a difficult couple of years in north London.
As reported by reputed Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano today (31 January), Everton and Spurs have agreed terms over a deal for Alli.
The attacking midfielder will reportedly initially join on a free transfer, although Everton will pay £10million (€12million) after 20 appearances.
Romano claims the total worth of the deal could rise to as much as £33.4million (€40million) in add-ons and other clauses.
Hutton admitted Alli needs a move out of Tottenham to regain some self-belief.
He suggested the England international could be a “brilliant” signing – if he can rediscover his confidence.
Hutton told Football Insider’s Russell Edge: “He definitely has to go somewhere where he’s going to be given that confidence and an arm around his shoulder to really spur him on.
“He’s had a difficult last two or three seasons and he looks a little bit down.
“So he needs to go somewhere where he’s going to be happy. Somewhere he is going to be loved and he can get back to his best.
“If you can get the best out of Dele Alli, he’s only 25. There is still a brilliant player in there.”

Alli has played 18 times for Spurs this season, with two goals and an assist under his belt.
However, only six of those appearances have come since Antonio Conte’s arrival.
