Everton transfer news: Lampard in ‘pole position’ to sign Man United star Van de Beek
Alex McLeish has suggested Everton are in “pole position” to sign Donny van de Beek permanently from Manchester United.
The former Scotland manager, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, insisted there would be “a lot of clubs” keeping tabs on the 24-year-old ahead of the summer.
As reported by the Athletic last month (30 January), Everton beat Crystal Palace to sign Van de Beek on loan after his struggles at Old Trafford.

The midfielder is contracted at Manchester United until 2025, having joined from Ajax in 2020.
McLeish insisted numerous clubs will be keeping an eye on Van de Beek’s progress with a view to a summer move.
However, he suggested getting the midfielder on loan could put Everton at the front of the queue.
McLeish told Football Insider’s Russell Edge: “There’s no doubt there’ll be a lot of clubs (interested).
“If Man United have signed him in the first place then he’s obviously a player of great pedigree.
“A lot of clubs would have wanted him in the first place. They will be looking on with interest, keeping an eye on his situation.
“Of course, Everton might be in pole position.”
Van de Beek has played just twice for the Toffees since his January move.
He made his first start in the 3-0 win over Leeds United last weekend.
The Netherland international made 16 appearances for Manchester United during the first half of the season.
However, he did not start a single league game for the Red Devils, with eight substitute appearances under his belt.
