Everton transfer news: Wyness in ‘no doubt’ star players ‘want a move away’
Former Everton chief Keith Wyness has insisted he has “no doubt” the “uncertainty” surrounding the club’s Financial Fair Play punishments could mean key men quit this summer.
Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, the 66-year-old – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – admitted high-value stars like Jarrad Branthwaite and Amadou Onana could have their “minds made up” by ongoing worries about potential relegation or financial punishment.
Everton appealed their 10-point deduction for breaching the Premier League’s Profit and Sustainability (PSR) rules – and Football Insider revealed on Wednesday (21 February) that a verdict is due within hours.
The Toffees could see their point penalty removed if successful but have been charged with a separate PSR breach since the initial punishment was applied.
Branthwaite, Onana, Pickford, Calvert-Lewin to quit Everton this summer?
Sean Dyche’s side would be sitting 12th in the table without the 10-point deduction, but are instead firmly in a fight for Premier League survival.
Jarrad Branthwaite, 21, and Amadou Onana, 22, are among the club’s prize assets and have been widely linked with moves away from Merseyside amid strong interest.
Wyness told Football Insider‘s Insider Track podcast: “There’s no doubt that it will be a worry for the players, this uncertainty.
“There is currently a vacuum of clarity, and misinformation and doubts will enter that void.
“That’s the biggest problem – whatever you say, you’re in trouble.
“It creates such a stressful situation.
“Star players will be thinking about whether they want a move away, and this situation will come into play. I have no doubt about that.

“The uncertainty could make their minds up – and that was not one of the intentions of the points deduction.
“These PSR rules seem to be becoming a draconian measure for the Premier League.”
