Everton ‘will go back in for John McGinn – Aston Villa want to sell’
Everton have been tipped to make another bid for Aston Villa captain John McGinn before the transfer window closes.
Earlier in the summer, Football Insider revealed that Villa had rejected an enquiry about the availability of McGinn from the Toffees.
Everton then made an official £18million bid for the Scotland international, which was swiftly turned down.
As well as the Toffees, Newcastle United have been linked with McGinn, as they look to improve their midfield ranks.
Everton’s former chief Keith Wyness – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – believes that his old side are going to go back in for the Villa man, after their first bid was rejected.

Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, Wyness insisted that Aston Villa may decide to cash in on McGinn, now that he is 30 years old.
The Scottish midfielder started 27 Premier League games for Unai Emery’s side last season, scoring one goal and picking up four assists.
Wyness added that McGinn would be loved by David Moyes and would work perfectly at Everton.
He told Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast: “He’s contributed with goals. He’s done very well at Villa, and Moyes would like him in particular.
“He’s been a captain at Villa. Obviously, it’s that sort of dressing room influence that Moyes loves. He’s going to need more of those experienced players in terms of the first season at a new stadium. You need those wise heads around, and I think McGinn would be great. That’s one I would expect Everton to go back in for.
“For Villa, McGinn’s 30, so they’ll now be looking to cash in and trying to keep the younger players. They’ve got a good conveyor belt with young players right now. So it may make sense for them to try and get some sort of money back on McGinn.
“He’d be welcome with Moyes, and I think it’s one that Moyes will be pushing for right now. McGinn could do a great job for them this year.”
Everton agree deal for Man City man
Meanwhile, Everton have agreed a deal to hire Man City recruitment chief James Smith, sources have told Football Insider.
Smith is believed to be on a three-month period of gardening leave after quitting his role as City’s director of scouting and recruitment around six weeks ago.
He is then expected to return to Everton, where he previously worked in the club’s recruitment team.
It continues the behind-the-scenes revamp at the Merseysiders under recently-appointed chief executive Angus Kinnear.
