Alan Myers updates on Guela Doue to Everton in new reveal
Everton's search for a new right-back is likely to continue up until the summer window closes, and Guela Doue remains on the club's radar.
It has already emerged that, of the Toffees' multiple targets in the position, the Strasbourg talent is highly admired by those behind the scenes.
As well as the 23-year-old, who can also play centre-back, Crystal Palace's Daniel Munoz and Fulham's Timothy Castagne are on the list.
Still, with David Moyes' side kicking off their Premier League campaign against Crystal Palace on Saturday, 22 August, the position remains unfilled.
Jake O'Brien is expected to feature at full-back against the Eagles, though Merlin Rohl has been tested out of position during pre-season.
Angus Kinnear has promised that there is more business to be done, and supporters will be praying that Doue is the next figure through the doors at Finch Farm.
Guela Doue to Everton not dead in the water
It had been understood the signing of Doue was hugely unlikely due to Strasbourg's price tag, forcing the Toffees to seek other targets.
However, trusted journalist Alan Myers has revived hope of a last-gasp transfer being done on Merseyside in the final weeks of the window.
Asked if Doue could be placed in Everton's "never going to happen" starting lineup, he simply replied, "Not yet".
Celtic's Alistair Johnston was also a target earlier in the window, but his new injury has thrown a spanner in the works at the Hill Dickinson Stadium.
Who else could Everton target for right-back?
Two of the latest targets to emerge are Aston Villa's Matty Cash and Barcelona's Hector Fort, though both look rather unlikely.
Rohl starting out of position against Palace seems far more likely, having done so successfully against Lille and VfB Stuttgart in pre-season.
The free agent market will, of course, be open past the summer window closing, but other clubs could snap up their signatures ahead of the Toffees.
Ricardo Pereira, Kevin Mbabu and James Tavernier are all without clubs, and could certainly do a job on Merseyside if called upon on a free transfer.
