David Moyes could be 'in trouble' after 'worrying' Everton twist

Everton and David Moyes could find themselves in a difficult position this season after a difficult end to the transfer window.

The Toffees had been keen to strengthen their squad during the summer break, but despite some big-money additions, still have glaring weaknesses in the squad.

Former West Ham scout Mick Brown, who worked closely alongisde Moyes, warned Football Insider that the boss is "not a mircale worker" and Everton could be "in trouble".

Moyes has been backed to lead his side to a stable position, but will find it increasingly difficult to make progress, with claims that he could now be becoming frustrated.

Brown told Football Insider on 7 September that Moyes has been left frustrated by Everton's failure to adequately back him during the summer transfer window.

The Toffees landed seven incoming deals this summer, two of which were loans made permanent, while Jack Grealish returned for another season on loan.

However, there is a feeling that the squad is still weak after they registered just 19 of a possible 25 players as they greatly lack depth, leading to new concerns behind the scenes.

"On the face of it, you'd say Everton could be in trouble," Brown told Football Insider.

"They didn't do enough business in the transfer window, they've left themselves short in key positions, especially in defence and without signing a new striker.

"David Moyes is a very good manager, I expect he will get results out of them and keep them stable, but he's not a miracle worker.

"They can't expect to make progress, like challenging to get into Europe for example, if they're not plugging pretty obvious gaps in their squad or strengthening in these positions.

"It is worrying because, like I say, I wouldn't have Everton pencilled in for relegation or anything like that, but are they happy just to rely on Moyesy to keep them safe?

"They haven't had a bad start to the season, but they're not playing Man United every week, they're going to have tougher tests.

"You'd want to see more ambition from them, and I'm certain Moyes would like to see more ambition from them, but that hasn't been the case."
