David Moyes to be 'let go' by Everton as new owners plot 'ambitious' appointment

David Moyes may be allowed to leave Everton upon the expiry of his contract as potential new owners could make major changes.

The Friedkin Group, who themselves have a frosty relationship with the manager, are exploring avenues to sell the club in the near future and could spark major changes.

While there is no imminent update on the sale process, questions are being asked about what potential new owners would have planned upon their arrival on Merseyside.

Former Man United chief scout Mick Brown told Football Insider that new owners often want to have their own man in charge and may decide to make an "ambitious" change.

That would mean Moyes could be allowed to leave his position upon the expiry of his contract at the end of the season, with doubts already growing about his future.

The boss recently explained that talks over an extension had hit delays in recent weeks, further fuelling the speculation that a change could take place at Everton.

Could David Moyes be let go by Everton?

Brown warned Football Insider on 20 October that Everton would be in danger of following West Ham into the Championship, given the similarities in Moyes' situation.

The Hammers also got sucked into the trap of plotting more "ambitious" moves, but it all went downhill following the change in manager, leading to their eventual relegation.

Everton have been warned against making a change as a result of that, but there is a growing feeling that any new owners are unlikely to take concerns into consideration.

"I've seen it happen a number of times where new owners come in and want to make changes," Brown told Football Insider.

"They want their own man in the dugout, somebody who they can claim all the success from if things go well and say 'look what we did', but that's not always the way it works.

"Lots of owners like to talk about 'ambition' and changes they can make, more 'ambitious' managers, which was also the line that came out about Moyes at West Ham.

"Often, it just means they want to play prettier, more attractive football, but it's not always the football that gets results, and that's one thing Moyes always guarantees.

"So there's no promise that any change they make would be a good one, but unfortunately, I won't be surprised if new owners come in and they let Moyes go."

What is next for Moyes after Everton contract delays?

Speculation surrounding Moyes' future has grown as a result of his contract situation, with doubts over whether he will extend raising questions long-term.

As a result, Moyes may already be eyeing his next move away from the Hill Dickinson Stadium, with clubs across England and Scotland believed to be keeping tabs on his situation.

Brown told Football Insider on 22 October that Moyes would "jump at" the opportunity to return to Scotland after speculation linking him with the Celtic job.

Having represented Celtic as a player, the potential of a return to Parkhead is expected to be tempting for Moyes, although much will depend on his future at Everton.

The boss is believed to be happy on Merseyside as things stand, with no plans to leave, but he could be forced to assess his options if talks over a new contract do not progress.
