David Moyes would 'jump at' Celtic offer as Everton exit edges closer

David Moyes would "jump at" the opportunity to become the next Celtic manager amid doubts about his future at Everton.

The 63-year-old's future is uncertain as things stand, with his contract at the Hill Dickinson Stadium set to expire at the end of the season with no progress in talks over a renewal.

A number of clubs are expected to be keeping a close eye on the boss' situation, with Celtic firmly among them as they prepare for Martin O'Neill's departure.

Former West Ham scout Mick Brown, who worked closely alongside Moyes at the London Stadium, told Football Insider that the opportunity to return to Scotland will appeal to him.

Having represented Celtic as a player, the potential of a return to Parkhead is expected to be tempting for Moyes, although much will depend on his future at Everton.

The boss is believed to be happy on Merseyside as things stand, with no plans to leave, but he could be forced to assess his options if talks over a new contract do not progress.

Could David Moyes be the next Celtic manager?

Football Insider revealed on 16 October that Celtic are considering Moyes as a potential replacement for O'Neill, and view him as an ideal candidate if he becomes available.

The boss' experience and impressive work at top clubs including Man United, Everton and West Ham, have made him a firm contender to land the Celtic job.

Everton, meanwhile, are believed to be reluctant to lose their manager, but if no progress is made towards a new contract, a return to Scotland could be tempting for Moyes.

"There's still a lot that has to happen before we can talk about David Moyes leaving Everton," Brown told Football Insider.

"But if they can't reach an agreement about a new contract, then he will have to consider his options, and I think the Celtic job could be very appealing for him.

"He would jump at the chance to go back to Scotland, with the club he used to represent as a player, so it would make a lot of sense for all parties.

"From a Celtic point of view, it would be a major coup to land a manager like Moyes, and that's why I do have doubts about whether he will end up leaving Everton.

"But he's obviously got family up in Scotland, so that's always a possibility that he could be tempted to move back there, and as I said, the Celtic job will surely appeal to him."

What is the latest on Moyes' future at Everton?

Speculation about the potential vacancy at Celtic has emerged due to Moyes' situation at Everton, with doubts creeping in about his future at the Hill Dickinson Stadium.

The boss is in the final year of his contract at Everton, and there has been little progress towards renewing his terms, opening the door for a potential exit in 2027.

Football Insider revealed on 18 October that Moyes is growing increasingly likely to leave Everton, with The Friedkin Group's decision to sell leading to further delays.

The former Man United boss has done an outstanding job since his return to Merseyside, with the Chelsea defeat their first of the season, and he has likely earned a new deal.

However, his frosty relationship with the current owners and uncertainty surrounding a potential takeover has called Moyes' future at Everton into doubt.
