Eddie Howe destined to be Everton manager under the new owners
David Moyes' future at the Hill Dickinson Stadium is already a major talking point despite Everton's bright start to the 2026-27 campaign.
That is because The Friedkin Group (TFG) have decided to put the football club up for sale just 21 months into their ownership on Merseyside.
Supporters have been left stunned by the American owners, who appear to have left Moyes high and dry after a frustrating summer window.
TFG clearly already had a full sale in mind during the summer, hence their reluctance to invest on the pitch, and that has now come to fruition.
One of the heaviest links, even before the confirmed news, was former Newcastle United co-owner Amanda Staveley.
The 53-year-old has been desperate to get back into Premier League football since stepping down from her role at St James' Park in 2024.
David Moyes not safe under Amanda Staveley
Stefan Borson has already told Football Insider that Staveley seems like a reasonable option, but that a takeover could cost upwards of £1billion.
Should she manage to bring those funds together with a consortium, many fans at the Hill Dickinson would welcome her aboard, but there would be changes.
And this is where Eddie Howe comes in. Staveley is a massive fan of the former Newcastle boss, who helped the Magpies to end a 70-year trophy drought.
Mick Brown has told Football Insider that Howe will return to management in a matter of months, and Staveley should easily be able to convince him to Merseyside.
When speaking about his appointment, the former Newcastle figure admitted that two choice came down to Howe and Unai Emery, but she was adamant that the former was the right man.
Who else could compete for Eddie Howe's signature?
The Toffees are unlikely to be the only club looking at Howe as a potential future manager, given his tremendous record at St James' Park.
Howe ended his tenure with the Magpies with a 50 per cent win-rate, never going below 40 per cent during stints with Bournemouth and Burnley.
With Michael Carrick under pressure at Old Trafford, Football Insider understands that Howe is interested in the Manchester United job should it become available.
But if Staveley wants him on Merseyside, should she become the majority owner, she will have to move quickly to make sure nobody else gets there first.
