Everton 'should be embarrassed' by David Moyes treatment amid quit fears
Everton's board should be embarrassed by their treatment of David Moyes despite what has been a strong start to the season.
The Toffees are currently unbeaten after five Premier League games and have progressed into the fourth round of the Carabao Cup, despite a difficult summer.
Moyes is being made to work with a small squad and with major weaknesses in key positions, but continues to get results, despite pressure from the board.
Former West Ham scout Mick Brown, who worked closely alongside Moyes, told Football Insider that The Friedkin Group "do not understand football" and are at risk of driving the boss out.
This comes after the owners criticised Everton's perforamnces last season, insisting it was a "failure" that they did not qualify for Europe despite an impressive campaign.
Moyes, meanewhile, recently confessed that he has never spoken to the owner Dan Friedkin in the almost two years since he took over, leading to further concerns.
Why is David Moyes' position at Everton uncertain?
Former Everton CEO Keith Wyness told Football Insider on 9 September that Moyes could walk away from the Hill Dickinson Stadium amid disagreements with the owners.
The boss has been vocal in his disappointment at the outcome of the summer transfer window, where he was left with a weakened squad and a lack of support.
He does not want to leave Everton just yet, but frustrations are believed to have grown, and the board have been warned they will be making a huge mistake if he leaves.
"David Moyes' position at Everton should not be a topic of discussion whatsoever," Brown told Football Insider.
"It calls into question the judgement of the people in high positions and their decision-making with regard to the club, the manager and their long-term plans.
"To any football person, you speak about David Moyes at Everton and everybody says what an outstanding job he has done there, at West Ham, and in his previous spell at Everton.
"But then you get these guys coming out to question him, saying they expected them to qualify for Europe and that he's failed, they clearly don't know what they're talking about. It's an insult.
"Moyes has come out and said he's never even met the owner, he's never spoken to him, how can that be the case?
"These people should be embarassed, it's disrespectful to the manager, to the club, to the fans, and it shows their complete lack of understanding of football and how things work.
"I don't blame Moyesy at all for being frustrated in this situation, because he cares about the club and he's doing a very good job there, but these people come out with all of this nonsense."
Could Everton choose to sack Moyes?
Alongside the suggestions that Moyes could be tempted to walk away from Everton as a result of his disagreements with the board, it has also been claimed he could be let go.
Despite what has been a brilliant start to the season on Merseyside, there are concerns that they may find it tough to continue their form given the board's lack of backing.
Brown warned Football Insider on 10 September that Moyes could find himself in a difficult position following the club's activity during the summer transfer window.
The Toffees had been keen to strengthen their squad during the summer break, but despite some big-money additions, still have glaring weaknesses in the squad.
A lack of attacking or defensive depth, particularly with regard to a new striker and right-back, have led to growing concerns about the strength of their squad.
