Everton to invest '£50m' in January, it's 'going to help TFG sell the club'

The Friedkin Group (TFG) could invest heavily during the January transfer window if it benefits the potential sale of Everton.

That is according to former Manchester City financial adviser Stefan Borson, who exclusively told Football Insider that the chance of European qualification could sway the American owners.

TFG were hugely criticised during the summer transfer window after leaving David Moyes with a subpar squad heading into the 2026-27 campaign.

The Toffees ended the window by signing Jack Grealish and Ainsley Maitland-Niles, with the owners then expressing their desire to bring new investors onboard.

Understandably, this sparked concerns that the owners of just 21 months already want out, and that fire has not exactly been put out by the Friedkins.

The January window would be the perfect time for TFG to showcase their ambitions for the club, but even that could have financial reasons.

Everton investment could be sign of full sale

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, Borson suggested that only the hope of European qualification would convince the owners to invest more.

"Is there an appetite for them to say, 'Right, we'll put £50m in January'? Unless they're on the brink of something..." he said.

"Unless they're having a fantastic season, let's say, they somehow find themselves in the top four, then maybe it's worth investing.

"If they can get into the Champions League or you can get into Europe, apart from the issues that would cause with Roma, then you know, that's going to help with the valuation.

"And that's going to help sell the club, and therefore, it might be worth the investment."

Who could David Moyes sign in January?

The January transfer window certainly could be more about trying to hold onto their current stars rather than signing new ones.

Several areas of the squad do need addressing, though, with the striker position being one of them, despite Thierno Barry's current form.

Football Insider understands that Richarlison is still an option, with Tottenham Hotspur open to to a half-price deal once the window reopens.

Tyler Dibling's future is likely to be a huge talking point in January, with his minutes between now and then having a big impact on the Toffees' plans.
