Ex-Everton boss replaces David Moyes as favourite to be next Scotland manager
David Moyes' future on Merseyside has never looked more uncertain than it does right now, and that's a huge worry for Everton.
The Toffees finished 13th in the Premier League last term despite a bright start to the season, with performances dropping off in the second half.
Despite some bright signs, especially when Jack Grealish was available, there are concerns that the 63-year-old could be edging towards an exit.
The Friedkin Group were catching some strays before the signings of Hayden Hackney and Tyrique George, but that is unlikely to be the main reason.
It is that the Scotland managerial job is currently vacant after Steve Clarke stepped down following his team's disappointing exit from the 2026 World Cup.
The Tartan Army were knocked out with a whimper, and now the former West Ham United boss is being urged to take on the new challenge on the international stage.
David Moyes no longer favourite for Scotland job
Moyes has never managed at international level, with his only experience abroad coming during a very short stint at Real Sociedad in 2014.
Up until recently, however, he was the favourite to take the job, putting real pressure on those back at the Hill Dickinson Stadium, in case a new manager hunt needed to start.
The Toffees can wipe that bead of sweat off their brow for now, though, with a recently sacked manager now being priced at 3/1 to take the job.
That would be Roberto Martinez, formerly of the Portugal national team and Everton, with Moyes now priced at 5/1 by one major bookmaker.
Understandably, that will be music to the ears of all the match-going fans on Merseyside, who want Moyes to take the Toffees into the new campaign.
Ex-Moyes ally in 'no doubt' over Scotland move
Keith Wyness, who worked for Moyes at Everton for quite some time, told Football Insider that he's in "no doubt" over the manager's interest.
However, he did admit that this move is likely to come further down the road in his managerial career, rather than right now.
The Toffees still have a lot of growing to do under the veteran's leadership, and TFG would hate to be searching for a new manager at this point in their ownership.
Martinez seems far more likely to take the role, given that his last two roles were with Belgium and Portugal, and hasn't been at a club for a decade.
