Everton have extensively scouted Palmeiras star Jose Lopez but have been yet to make a move for the Argentine.

David Moyes' side are not the only ones interested, with Brentford also eyeing a deal for the 25-year-old striker, who can also feature as an attacking midfielder.

Supporters at the Hill Dickinson Stadium were outraged by the owners' lack of investment during the summer, which left Moyes lacking depth.

To really put it into context, Thierno Barry is the only senior centre-forward available, and he only netted eight goals in 41 appearances last term.

The Toffees wanted more firepower for the 2026-27 campaign, but with Beto and Iliman Ndiaye seeking exits, that is far from the current truth.

While it is only the beginning of October, the January transfer window will be rolling around in no time, and Everton have to act.

Everton must reignite deal for Jose Lopez

Moyes has done incredibly well so far, and Barry scoring twice in five Premier League games has helped the side to seventh in the Premier League.

But the Merseysiders cannot have only one striker for the entire season, and that's where Lopez, who continues to impress, comes in.

In 2026, the Argentine has 21 goals and 11 assists in 51 games, building on his 31 contributions from the previous season, earning him another international call-up.

And on his sixth cap for the Argentina national team, coming on as a substitute against Bolivia on Thursday, 1 September, he netted his first goal.

It took him just 13 minutes to find the back of the net, dancing around several defenders before firing his effort into the far corner to make it 4-0.

As well as his goal, Lopez even missed another big chance, completed 100 per cent of his passes, won two tackles and won 100 per cent of his ground duels [FotMob].

Could David Moyes face further blows in January?

While the majority of fans will be expecting additions in January, the Friedkin Group could have a rather different approach, and a frustrating one at that.

TFG are not expected to splash the cash in January, and even worse, Everton could see multiple players leave before the second half of the season.

Mick Brown told Football Insider that Jake O'Brien is eyeing a January move, while Harry Kane is believed to be in Jordan Pickford's ear.

The England international is once again being targeted by Bayern Munich, and his departure would be one of the biggest blows in recent history for Everton.
