TFG to make 'quick profit' as Everton takeover update emerges - Stefan Borson

Published on:

The Friedkin Group are prioritising making a "quick profit" after putting Everton up for sale after 21 months in charge.

That is according to former Manchester City financial adviser Stefan Borson, who exclusively told Football Insider that the owners' decision is likely to be money orientated.

Ownership of Serie A giants, AS Roma, has always been tipped to cause issues in the long run, and TFG clearly want to get ahead of the curve before it does.

The American group completed a £400million takeover on Merseyside in 2024, but is now considering its "next chapter" in the footballing world.

Despite helping the club's debt situation, the building of the Hill Dickinson Stadium, and the team's growth on the pitch, not everything has been smooth sailing.

TFG caused fan fury during the summer window, with a lack of investment leaving David Moyes with a small squad and one in desperate need of improvements.

TFG being money-focused in takeover latest

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, Borson believes that TFG are fully focused on making a profit on their investment, seeing now as the best time to do so.

"When they took over, they possibly had a view that they would be able to change the approach that was being taken by UEFA," he said.

"That would be if both qualified for a certain competition, they could both qualify and participate. But look, there was always the problem of having two equally sized clubs.

"In the group, that's not really happened before. You've always had a dominant club. But they may well have looked at it and said, 'Look, what do we long term?'

"'How do we fix this without every year, either having to go into blind trust, which is not really practical, or just accepting that our priority is with one of our clubs'.

"And they may also have looked at the Premier League and gone, 'This just makes no sense for us compared to the bang we can get per euro per dollar in Italy'.

"The stadium's open and functioning, the team is mid-table, there's a management team in place. Now's a good time to make a quick profit. And I think and that's that's probably what's going on now."

How have Everton fans reacted to the news?

The news has taken many by surprise, with the majority unsure of quite how to react to the owners already wanting to sell after less than two years in charge.

While some are grateful for the changes brought in by TFG, others have branded their ownership as "pathetic" after a frustrating summer window.
