Everton have set their sights on signing Aston Villa captain John McGinn this summer, sources have told Football Insider.

The Toffees are reigniting their interest in the 31-year-old midfielder after previously holding talks in the last summer transfer window.

Everton are in the market for a new central midfielder over the coming months as they look to improve their squad’s depth.

David Moyes also wants players who can make an immediate impact and go straight into the starting XI.

McGinn has played 38 games in all competitions for Aston Villa this season, and has scored seven goals and provided six assists.

This has put the Birmingham outfit on the verge of qualifying for Champions League football, and are the favourites to win the Europa League this season.

However, his eight-year career at Aston Villa could now end, as Everton look to sign McGinn.

Does John McGinn still have the ability to be a success at Everton?

While Everton fans may be excited about the possibility of signing McGinn, his age will no doubt be a concern.

The midfielder is set to turn 32 years old later this year. However, this has now reduced his importance to Villa.

So far this campaign, he has started in 26 of the 27 Premier League matches he has been available in this season, as well as numerous cup matches.

Emery’s faith in the Scotland international has also seen McGinn play in various positions, including on the right wing.

Many of the midfielder’s stats are also impressive, with his creativity being a clear standout.

Therefore, there is no doubt that McGinn would be a success at Everton if they elected to sign the Aston Villa star.

Who else are Everton linked with?

Football Insider has exclusively revealed that Everton are also eyeing Conor Gallagher ahead of the summer transfer window.

The England international is currently at Tottenham Hotspur, with his winter transfer clearly not working out.

Everton are pursuing a loan-to-buy deal for the 26-year-old, with Moyes being a big admirer of the star.

It is believed that Gallagher could now leave Tottenham Hotspur just months after joining in the winter window.

However, it remains to be seen if the Toffees will capture Gallagher as well as McGinn in the upcoming window.
