Every game Bruno Guimaraes is expected to miss as Newcastle injury timescale emerges
Newcastle United are expected to be without Bruno Guimaraes for eight to 10 weeks after he suffered a serious muscle injury.
The Brazilian was forced off in the closing stages of the Magpies’ 2-1 win over Tottenham at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Tuesday.
And according to Fabrizio Romano, Bruno could soon travel to Brazil for further tests as medical staff from both his national team and Newcastle assess his recovery.
The 28-year-old’s World Cup is not in doubt, and he will hope to return before the end of the club season.
Bruno’s injury will come as a significant blow to Eddie Howe, who has been under pressure to produce better results in recent weeks.
What Newcastle games will Bruno Guimaraes miss?
What will be seriously worrying for Howe is that Newcastle are yet to win a Premier League game without Bruno since his arrival in 2022.
After the Brazilian picked up an ankle injury against PSV Eindhoven in January, the Magpies lost their next three league games without him.
His return coincided with a relieving Newcastle win on Tuesday, but Howe must now figure out a way to win games without their captain for much of what remains of the season.
Saturday’s FA Cup trip to Aston Villa is up first, before the first leg of a play-off tie against Qarabag in the Champions League.
The Magpies will then play Premier League title-chasers Man City before they welcome the Azerbaijani side to St James’ Park.
March will see key clashes against Man United and Chelsea, before the one Bruno will be really gutted to miss – the reverse edition of the Tyne-Wear derby, where Newcastle will hope to get revenge on Sunderland.
The midfielder will likely also miss trips to Crystal Palace and Arsenal in April, but could target a return for Newcastle’s final four league games, which will come against Brighton, Nottingham Forest, West Ham and Fulham.
How will Newcastle set up without Bruno?
Bruno’s injury is made more concerning for Howe due to the current absence of Lewis Miley and Joelinton.
The manager has confirmed that both players should return imminently, but Newcastle are restricted in how they can line up until then.
| Bruno Guimaraes | Premier League 2025-26 |
| Appearances | 23 |
| Goals | 9 |
| Assists | 4 |
| Chances created | 38 |
| Fouls won | 52 |
| Tackles | 50 |
Jacob Ramsey has finally started to pick up form following his summer move from Villa and will likely start, while Joe Willock has featured more in recent weeks.
Sandro Tonali is fit and will likely be tasked with performing many of the tasks Bruno does in the middle of the midfield trio.
Whether Newcastle can start to pick up some form without their star man, however, remains to be seen. The wrong answer could well cost Howe his job.
