Former-Celtic midfielder delivers honest verdict on Rangers ahead of clash v Motherwell

Sheffield Wednesday and former Celtic midfielder Ross Wallace has revealed that he thinks the Rangers squad is stronger than last season.

Last campaign, Pedro Caixinha’s side finished in third position in the Premiership table as rivals Celtic soared 39 points ahead to secure the silverware.

However, the Portuguese manager signed nine new players this summer, including hugely experienced defender Bruno Alves from Cagliari.

And Caixinha’s efforts in the transfer window appear to be paying off with his squad beating Sheffield Wednesday 2-0 in a recent friendly, with goals from Josh Windass and Kenny Miller.

Wallace, 32, played for Celtic between 2002 and 2006 before moving south to English football with Sunderland.

Now he’s playing for Sheff Wednesday and he spoke about the impressive performance from their Scottish visitors after the match.

“Rangers was a tough game,” Wallace told The Star. “They were cheered on by a good crowd and brought good numbers down.”

The former Scotland international told the regional newspaper that Caixinha’s squad looked strong during the friendly.

“It felt like a top-end Championship match,” the midfielder explained. “Rangers have got some good players and look stronger than they did last year.”

The Glaswegian side now look ahead to starting the season with a victory against Motherwell as they travel to Fir Park this weekend for their Premiership opener.
