Ex-Fifa official: Liverpool may now be severely punished amid official Jordan Henderson update

Liverpool and Arsenal will both be fined for failing to control their players on Sunday (9 October), according to Keith Hackett.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Fifa and Premier League referee delivered his verdict as tempers flared when Arsenal were awarded a penalty in their 3-2 win at the Emirates.

There was a mass confrontation when Michael Oliver pointed to the spot after a foul by Thiago Alcantara on Gabriel Jesus.

Jordan Henderson and Granit Xhaka were spotted in each other’s face before Bukayo Saka scored from the penalty and secured the three points for the Gunners.

After that, towards the end of the game, Oliver stopped the game to speak with Jurgen Klopp and Mikel Arteta about a further argument between Henderson and Gabriel Magalhaes.

The Guardian reported that the FA are weighing up whether to launch a formal probe into the incident, and there have also been whispers of a bust-up in the tunnel afterwards.

“There’s no doubt that the FA will investigate the players that clashed after the award of the penalty kick, Xhaka, Henderson and others,” Hackett told Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley.

“That is clearly a mass confrontation between players. They will investigate that and there is a likelihood that a fine will come to the clubs for failing to control their players.”

Arsenal

The result left Liverpool down in 10th, 14 points behind Arsenal who are top with Jurgen Klopp admitting his side are no longer in the title race.

Arsenal have won eight of their nine Premier League games this season and are a point clear of Man City.

In other news, Liverpool fear a star man will be “out for months” amid development on Monday.
