Ex-Fifa official: Referee made ‘big’ error as controversial Jack Colback footage emerges from Nottingham Forest
Huddersfield Town should have had a penalty kick for a foul on Harry Toffolo in their 1-0 loss to Nottingham Forest in the Championship play-off final on Sunday (29 May), according to Keith Hackett.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Fifa and Premier League referee claimed VAR should have told Jon Moss to review the incident in the pitchside monitor.
Instead, Moss showed Toffolo, 26, a yellow card after he went down under a challenge from Jack Colback.
And while Hackett admitted he exaggerated the contact he insisted that Moss made the wrong decision as there was contact.
He said after analysing the footage with Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley: “I’m going to give a penalty kick, I think there was contact.
“I don’t think it was sufficient for Moss to dash in and caution the player. That was self-preservation and him saying ‘I’m not giving a penalty kick, so I’ll give him a caution’.
“There was contact. There was a degree of exaggeration, there was no doubt, but I think it was a foul.
“A lot of people don’t agree. It’s a subjective call, he’s judged there was an act of simulation.
“I would have liked VAR to say ‘That might be a clear and obvious error, have a second look at it’.
“When you’re operating at the elite level of the game, it is the big decisions that you’ve got to get right.”

Nottingham Forest held onto their 1-0 lead to ensure their return to the Premier League after a 23-year absence.
Huddersfield will now prepare for their fourth consecutive season in the Championship after being relegated from the Premier League in 2019.
