Ex-Fifa official ‘shudders’ at referee Jon Moss as Leicester City controversy analysed – ‘you can’t make it up’
Keith Hackett has slammed referee Jon Moss for his “two out of 10” performance in Leicester City’s win over Southampton on Sunday.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Fifa and Premier League official said the 51-year-old got it “totally wrong” in the build up to the Foxes’ opener at the King Power Stadium.
Jamie Vardy went down after a collision with Southampton’s Oriol Romeu off the ball and although no free-kick was given Jon Moss halted the game.
Moss then awarded a drop ball to Leicester City despite the fact the visitors had possession when the whistle was blown.
Foxes midfielder James Maddison scored from the resulting passage of play to leave Ralph Hasenhuttl’s side fuming.
When asked by Football Insider‘s Dylan Childs for his assessment of the controversial incident, Hackett said: “The referee got it totally wrong in law.
“It was 100 per cent wrong. The law is quite clear.
“The drop ball should go to the team who had possession last unless it is in the penalty area. Southampton had possession. It should have been a drop ball for Southampton.
“You cannot make it up. A man of Jon Moss’ experience… I shudder. It is the responsibility of the referee.
“I would give him a two out of 10 for an error in law.”

Southampton never recovered from Maddison’s first-half goal.
Leicester ran out eventual 4-1 winners on the final day of the season.
