Ex-Fifa official verdict on Antonio Colak injustice as controversial Rangers footage emerges – ‘wait for it’
Rangers did not deserve a second penalty in their 4-0 win over St Mirren on Saturday (8 October), according to Keith Hackett.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Fifa and Premier League referee insisted Alex Gogic was not guilty of handball at Ibrox.
As shown on the BBC’s Sportscene programme, the ball appeared to strike Gogic’s arm after an Antonio Colak shot bobbled up.
Nick Walsh waved away Rangers’ appeals for a spot-kick and the game was allowed to continue with the hosts 2-0 up.
Colak had won a penalty in the first half after being fouled by Declan Gallagher but Hackett has insisted he did not deserve a second one.
He said after analysing the footage with Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley: “I support the referee on that.
“On this one, I think he’s actually saying the player is actually very close and therefore his chance of getting out is low.
“Wait for it because VAR is going to come into operation soon and these are going to be looked at more closely in the future.
“At the moment, it’s a snapshot and he’s too close. I think the referee has got that one right.
“I can see why the players appeal because the general view is that if it strikes the hand and arm then it’s going to be a penalty kick, no matter where the hand and arm are or whatever the player is up to.
“I think the referee has got that one right.”

The result kept Rangers two points behind Celtic at the top of the Scottish Premiership.
The Gers are next in action on Wednesday (12 October) when they host Liverpool in the Champions League.
In other news, Rangers have been told to intervene after an official update on a Glen Kamara investigation.
