Ex-Fifa official: West Ham may be ‘in trouble’ with Uefa as ‘terrible’ footage emerges

West Ham may be in trouble with Uefa after the “unacceptable” behaviour of Anderlecht fans during their Europa Conference League clash last week (13 October), according to Keith Hackett.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Fifa and Premier League referee admitted it was “sad” that West Ham could be punished for the actions of their opposition.

The Hammers beat the Belgian side 2-1 at the London Stadium but the game was marred by fan violence in the away end.

In footage shared by talkSPORT’s Ian Abrahams on Twitter, Anderlecht fans can be seen throwing seats and flares at the home fans.

“First of all, there is a match delegate at the game and he will report that to the disciplinary panel at Uefa,” Hackett said after analysing the footage with Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley.

“The sadness here is that West Ham could be in trouble. It’s a delicate matter.

“Ultimately, at the end of the day, because you want to shuffle those fans that are really causing you problems onto the streets but you can’t do that.

“The matter will be dealt with by Uefa, watch this space. The likelihood will be that they will review the stadium security.

“Crikey, when you look at it. There are massive amounts of security. If this was in Spain, I can tell you that the police would be in with the baton charge and people would be in trouble. It’s unacceptable, terrible.”

West Ham are top of their Europa Conference League group after four games.

They have won all four and have secured progression to the knock-out stages.
