Ex-Man United striker sees odds slashed to become next Leicester manager after Marti Cifuentes sack latest

Stoke City boss Mark Robins could soon become Leicester City’s next manager after his odds to replace Marti Cifuentes were shortened by a leading bookmaker.

Leicester‘s return to the Championship has not gone to plan at all so far after Cifuentes was hired as the man to get them back to the Premier League ahead of this season.

Football Insider revealed last month that Leicester were seriously considering sacking Cifuentes, but a three-match unbeaten run that followed, with wins against Derby and Ipswich, was enough to save his job.

They have since gone on to lose to Sheffield United and Coventry City, in between wins over the Baggies and Cheltenham Town, with Jannik Vestergaard rescuing a late point at Wrexham on Tuesday night.

Cifuentes is the favourite to be sacked next among all Championship bosses right now, with Potters manager Robins potentially set to move across the Midlands to the King Power Stadium as his replacement.

Mark Robins’ odds go from 12/1 to 8/1 to be Leicester’s next boss

Former Man United striker Robins has made a name for himself as one of the second tier’s most reliable managers over the last few years in charge of both Coventry and Stoke.

He led the Sky Blues from League Two to the Championship in just four seasons, then led them to the play-off final in 2023 before defeat to Luton Town.

The 56-year-old was appointed as Stoke’s new manager last January after leaving Coventry two months prior, and he guided them to survival last term, while he has taken them into the second-tier playoff race as it stands.

With Cifuentes on the edge at Leicester, Robins was previously 12/1 to be their next manager, but a leading UK bookmaker has now shortened his odds to 8/1 as he impresses with Stoke.

Which other managers are in the running to succeed Cifuentes?

Michael Carrick was the previous frontrunner to succeed Cifuentes at the King Power Stadium, but those links have dissipated after he was appointed as Man United’s new interim manager.

Former Rangers and Southampton boss Russell Martin is now the favourite to be Leicester’s next manager, at odds of 4/1 as he searches for his next challenge after leaving Ibrox in October.

Robbie Keane is also in contention to take over as Leicester boss after the Spaniard, as the second-favourite at 13/2, with Robins the new third-favourite after a change to the odds.

England under-21s boss Lee Carsley is also believed to be in the running, at odds of 10/1, while Kevin Muscat and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer are 12/1 contenders.
