Ex-manager backs Tottenham to sign 'top midfielder' after talks update
Alex McLeish has backed Tottenham to sign a new striker and a “top midfielder” should Harry Kane leave the club.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Scotland manager insisted Spurs need to “maximise the situation” and provide top teammates for superstar Son Heung-Min after his new deal.
As quoted by Sky Sports (August 5th), Nuno Espirito Santo revealed he is yet to speak to Kane after the 28-year-old missed training earlier this week.
The Portuguese boss insisted the situation would be resolved internally, with the club speaking to the hitman to reach a solution.
As revealed by Football Insider on Tuesday (August 3rd), Kane has told Jack Grealish he will do “whatever it takes” to leave Spurs.
McLeish suggested the Lilywhites could target another striker and a technically gifted midfielder with the funds raised from Kane’s sale.

McLeish told Football Insider deputy editor Russell Edge: “Nobody’s bigger than the club. Spurs have to go forward as an organisation.
“They have to say: ‘Harry’s done his time, he’s gone and we’ve got to maximise the situation.’
“New players mean it can be quite an exciting time for the fans. Again, we’ve seen players come in before that are possibly not the household names you want.
“They might take a long time to settle into the team. Sometimes they never settle into the team. Recruitment is an absolute priority, especially at this delicate time for Spurs.
“What they really need to do is to bringing technical players in to improve and pick the brains of opposition defences.
“With Harry gone, they do need another striker and possibly a top midfielder to complement the striker. I know Son’s signed on for a couple years, so that’s a great boost as well.
