Ex-manager makes ‘incredible’ claim as Leeds tipped to copy Liverpool with ‘top’ signing

Alex McLeish has tipped Leeds United to look at signing another “top finisher” to support Patrick Bamford in attack.

The former Scotland manager, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, suggested the Whites could look at Liverpool’s front three for inspiration.

Bamford started all but one of Leeds’ Premier League games last season and scored 17 goals.

Record signing Rodrigo Moreno, who played as a centre-forward at Valencia and for Spain, was used primarily in an attacking midfield role.

The versatile Tyler Roberts has also players through the middle on occasion.

McLeish admitted he did not expect Leeds to “sit still” during the transfer window.

He suggested the Whites may look at recruiting another attacking talent to support Bamford up front.

McLeish told Football Insider’s Russell Edge: “With Bielsa there, the strides that they’ve made, it’s just incredible. You don’t see them sitting still.

“I think Bamford has been such an unusual centre-forward, he gets goals out of nothing. Sometimes he’s isolated.

“I wonder if they could get another top finisher in beside him. They may have to change the system but almost akin to the Liverpool three.

You can play two brilliant finishers on either side.

“That would probably be the next improvement for them, in my opinion.”

Joe Gelhardt and Sam Greenwood are Leeds’ two top strikers at under-23 level.

In terms of wingers, Bielsa currently has Jack Harrison, Raphinha, Helder Costa and Ian Poveda as his senior options.
