Ex-PGMOL chief: Bournemouth and Brentford ‘will be charged’ after ‘outrageous’ scenes
AFC Bournemouth and Brentford should expect sanctions after “outrageous” footage emerged from the Vitality Stadium.
That is according to former PGMOL chief and ex-FIFA referee, Keith Hackett, who exclusively told Football Insider that the Premier League duo damaged their own images on Tuesday, 3 March.
The Cherries played out a goalless draw on the south coast, with several chances to take the lead spurned during the 90 minutes, leading to some heightened emotions following the full-time whistle.
Keith Hackett told Football Insider that Bournemouth should have been awarded a penalty against the Bees after Marcus Tavernier was brought down cynically, but Andoni Iraola’s side were left frustrated.
Bournemouth and Brentford tipped for FA punishment
It was Brentford’s Jordan Henderson who sparked some ugly post-match scenes, however, picking a fight with the Bournemouth staff, needing to be separated by fellow players on the south coast.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former referee said: “We continue to witness these outrageous confrontations at the end of the game. It clearly damages the images of the teams and the clubs.
“I have no doubt that both clubs will be charged for failing to control their players.”
The FA are no strangers when it comes to dishing out punishments, most recently charging Daniel Farke following his red card at the end of Leeds United’s defeat to Man City at the weekend.
What did Keith Andrews say about the post-match scenes?
The cameras hardly missed a moment after the full-time whistle, capturing some incredible scenes near the dugouts and tunnel, but it was not completely clear what sparked it.
Speaking in his post-match press conference, Andrews spoke on the incident, saying: “Not really sure. I definitely didn’t start it. I think the game was played with a really competitive edge tonight.
“It probably spilt over a little bit at the end,” and spill over it did. There did not appear to be any bookings dished out by the referee, but there is certainly likely to be some retrospective punishment from the FA.
Both sides would have loved all three points, so the emotions are understandable, but Premier League players have to learn to keep those emotions in check.
